TLDR

  • Midjourney is a tool we use for creative direction and development.

  • We use it to help design projects like commercial container parks and small multifamily apartments.

  • Midjourney's parameters help you get closer to your desired results.

  • It can save money by creating similar designs without paying an architect or a 3d rendering professional.

  • It allows for exploring design possibilities in a fraction of the time it would take for a professional to draw it.

  • It is an exciting tool, but there are limitations to it, and at the end of the day, it helps to save time and come up with ideas on the fly. Architects and engineers are still very much necessary to complete projects.

Mindfulness and Magic: Let's Explore the Wonders of Midjourney

I've been heavy on the AI wave the last few months, mainly the large language models such as Bard or ChatGPT and generative AI models such as Midjourney or Dall-E. In this post, I want to highlight some exciting ways that we're using Midjourney as a creative tool for our development by highlighting a few of the different projects that we're doing.

Projects

Commercial Container project: Creative direction

Overview

We have a commercial lot in which we are building a container park with many small shops and restaurants. Midjourney allows us to come up with a concept for it.

Prompt

My first prompt was "an aerial shot of a container park that has shops and restaurants within it." This created some excellent results, but they differed from what I wanted. After a few iterations, I got closer to what I wanted.

"an aerial shot of a small container park in a rural area that has shops and restaurants within it, only two stories tall. The area of the park is 20,000 sq feet and it sits on a 50,000 sq ft lot. --stylize 0"

I used Midjourney's stylize parameter to help me make my prompt more literal. The lower the stylize, the more literal it takes you. I can now go to my architect with this and point out what I like and don't like and how we should proceed.

First Iteration is really lovely but too big for the space that we have.
